Home visitation and early education programs teach parents the skills they need to form a healthy bond with their children. There is a direct correlation between the parent child bond and child abuse. The greater the bond the less the risk of abuse. Please do your homework before you post comments.

Children who are abused/neglected go into foster care until their parents show some remorse/improvement. They're pretty remorseful when their food stamps, welfare, WIC, etc, goes away. The only normal moments of childhood they have are during foster care, when they are SENT TO PRESCHOOL! You may do a fine job of raising your children, but you are not raising ALL of the children in the world. Get out of your shell, VOLUNTEER, and help some of the children who don't have you for a parent!

Early education programs do not supplant parents, but support them as their childs first and most important teacher. The sad reality is that many low-income parents grew up in poverty and may not have the tools to support their childs education. Evidence-based programs coach low-income parents on how to best support their childs education at school and at home starting before the child is born. Only by supporting the family can we narrow the achievement gap and break the cycle of poverty.

Those kids not being properly cared for in their first 5 years is CHILD ABUSE and NEGLECT. Having them in a babysitting program that they want to call education is simply pulling children out the home so the government can have them sufficiently brainwashed to their liking before they get to kindergarten. So how about we prevent child abuse and require parents to RAISE their children instead of just spitting them out for government handouts and neglecting them.

This video makes me feel so proud to work in early childhood. I have invested the past 35 years of my life to improving the first five years for our country's children and their families.
If you are trying to learn more about early childhood I encourage you to also seek a physician practice that utilizes Healthy Steps. This has been an incredibly effective way of educating parents with young children.

All of the "academic" programs/tools in the world will not solve what happens in the first five years of life. We must invest in children before they come to school, and we must address the social/emotional needs of children once they are in school. Once in school, the relationship between the student and the teacher is the most important aspect of the child's success in school, not how many minutes are spent on each subject. Let's invest our time and treasure in what really matters.
