This book shows the steps on doing a problem, but half the time does not explain why or how you got to the next step. I am confused a lot of the time doing the exercises in this book because I can not figure out the explanation. An explanation should do just that; explain. I usually end up doing a search on the internet for an explanation of how to do the problems instead. Unfortunately this sub-par book is required for my Algebra class.

I am a software engineer, challenges are part of my job. Even in school I rarely mind a challenge. What I do mind is a half impossible task where I am not equipped with the proper resources to complete the challenge. That is exactly what this book sets up a class for.

This book severely lacks explanations, especially towards the end. They talk about a concept then expect you to know how to take it a step further. I find myself going on the internet very frequently looking to fill in the voids the book leaves.

When this book does give an explanation, it is awful. I have not for a long time seen a non-fiction writer pack so many words into so few thoughts. Even simple processes like finding the information of a parabola or hyperbola are made almost impossible to understand by the authors poor way of explaination. I once again found myself looking on the internet (youtube is useful) for clearer explanations on what they simply can no convey in a clear manor.

Having talked to almost everyone else in my class, I surprisingly found that I understood more than most of them. This book is clearly a poor learning tool for any class.
